R Marine Crawley team rises to Movember challenge
The fun-loving fellows at R Marine Crawley are this month sporting some suave and fashionable facial hair … although in some cases this is most certainly a more-than-slight exaggeration.
Nevertheless, mid-way through the fundraising Movember, even those team members struggling to grow a meaningful moustache seem to be keeping a stiff upper lip.
Of course there is a serious side to these fun-filled fashion statements – the R Marine Crawley team is helping to raise funds for a movement that has made a tangible difference for the health of men right around the world.
Dealer Principal of the Riviera and Belize dealership based at Runaway Bay on the Gold Coast, Ben Crawley is now resembling what many might suggest is a Mexican pool man.
However, Ben admits there’s a real sense of purpose among the team to assist the great Movember cause.
“I had mine trimmed just this morning and I must say it’s feeling … different,” he says. “Our service and maintenance manager Jade Anderson appears to have an edge on us all in the growth stakes – he usually sports a set of handlebars.
“Luxury boat broker and management assistant Michael Donnan, as the young buck of the team, seems to be struggling but we’re backing him for the Fu Manchu cross grasshopper style.”
The rest of the participants in the R Marine Crawley Movember challenge team – luxury boat brokers Ben Leigh-Smith and Jason Kowalski along with warranty manager Nick Westh – were spared the light-hearting ribbing from Ben … but it was a close shave.
But Mo-Sista Lauren Dayberg-Muir, the dealership’s creative and marketing manager, didn’t miss: “Tragic – that’s the best way to say it!”
The R Marine Crawley team is well on its way to its $5000 fundraising target – and Ben Crawley says a percentage of all boat purchases settled throughout the month of November will be donated to the Movember cause.
“The Movember Foundation is a global charity committed to men living happier, healthier, long lives,” he said. “Since 2003, millions have joined the men’s health movement, raising $685 million and funding over 1000 programs focusing on prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health and physical inactivity.
“It’s great that we are able to support such a great cause, and have a lot of fun doing it.”
The moustaches will come off in a special shaving ceremony on Tuesday, December 1 – or before … if the guys’ partners have anything to do with it.
