Pittwater, Sydney, NSW, Australia: The smiles on the happy young faces speak volumes for the success of the inaugural Cruise for Camp Quality recently hosted by Pittwater-based Riviera and Belize dealership R Marine Riley.

Over 50 children living with the effects of cancer, including 18 cancer patients, enjoyed this very special event with their families aboard 21 yachts from Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Gosford, Sydney Harbour, Port Hacking and also from Kuring-Gai Motor Yacht Club, the Royal Motor Yacht Club and the Bobbin Head Cruising Club.

Dealer principal Mark Riley – who with his wife Darja has three children and supports many worthy causes – says there are very few families in Australia who, in some way, have not been touched by cancer.

“Camp Quality advocates that laughter is the best medicine and it really is inspiring to see how they build optimism and resilience through each stage of the cancer journey … and their commitment extends to supporting the whole family,” he said. “They are even starting to provide support to children under 13 who have a parent living with cancer.

“My wife Darja and I have three lovely children ourselves and many of our clients have children, so we felt compelled to support children living with cancer and their families through those difficult times.

“We thought how wonderful it would be to treat children who would not normally be able to spend a day afloat aboard a luxury Riviera to such an enriching experience … of course with the help of the Riviera family.”

The Cruise for Camp Quality included a leisurely four-hour cruise around Pittwater, Broken Bay and America Bay, followed by a delicious sausage sizzle and marina party at the Quays, where volumes of lollies were eagerly accepted and enjoyed.

“There were many very happy smiling faces all round – one of the mothers had never been fishing before and she, along with several of the kids, caught a fish for the first time in their lives,” says Mark.

“Judging by the success, we will have many willing participants next year.”
