Riviera’s American dealer Bay Marine finds a cool way to raise funds
Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, USA: Riviera’s Great Lakes dealer, Bay Marine, has taken on the chilly ALS Ice Bucket Challenge to raise a total of $500 for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) disease in honour of long time friends and customers, Vickie and Loren Semler.
Vickie was diagnosed with ALS in 2010 and together with her husband, Loren, they have established the Semler ALS Research Fund at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in the hope that a cure will be found for this debilitating disease.
ALS, known as Motor Neurone Disease (MND) in Australia, is a neurodegenerative terminal diseases affecting about 1,900 people in Australia and as many as 30,000 Americans. People with ALS progressively lose the use of their limbs and their ability to speak, swallow and breathe yet their mind and senses remain intact and in the later stages of the disease, patients become totally paralysed.
Bay Marine donated $25 per employee to the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, which went viral on social media during July/August and reached Australian shores on August 10 when Rod Harris, CEO of MND Victoria was nominated to undertake the challenge by Rachel Patterson of the International Alliance of ALS/MND Associations.
Riviera congratulates the Bay Marine team for braving the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge to raise funds and awareness for this terminal neurological disease.
